CONFERENCE & SCUBA RESORT
MBHARCHITECTS had lots of fun completing its concept proposal for this new exclusive and idyllic island paradise CONFERENCE and SCUBA resort, of which the structure symbolises the main sails of a yacht, with the Southern façade depicting a tight main sail capturing the #Mediterranean Sea’s Southern winds, and the Northern façade representing a loose main sail flapping in the Northern winds, with the spire as the main mast.
The resort can be accessed via ferry or private yachts at its small harbour, or via air transport, as it will have its own run way that can accommodate up to 737 sized fixed wing aircraft and helicopters. Since no private cars will be allowed on the island, visitors will be taken to the main reception by limosine or bus, after disembarking.
It will consist of a 40 storey high hotel with 237 double rooms, 8 deluxe penthouse suites, a 450 seat auditorium with business centre at the top of the spire between levels 33 to 40, its own 10 bed hospital with a resus and hyperbaric capable emergency unit and 3 dental surgeries, a 200 seat theatre for movies, fashion shows or concerts, a 40m deep infinity scuba aquarium, which gives natural access to an array of marine life, by means of chambers along the bottom of the aquarium on the ocean floor level, 5 main restaurants, one of which will be located on the 36th storey 360 degree viewing deck and another submerged 5 storeys below the aquarium surface, and a full 5 storey gymnasium with a luxury health spa built over the 40m deep aquarium.
A scuba centre built on an artificial coral reef and tidal pool, will accommodate scuba lessons and diving excursions along the reef between 2 man made islands and a purposefully sunken wreck at 25m deep. The artificial reefs will also serve as a barrier between the beaches and the open ocean, where a number of water activities such as snorkeling, kayaking and jet skiing can be undertaken in calmer waters.
Panoramic all glass elevators, submerged under the aquarium on ground level, spiral along the outside of the central spire, affording a 360 degree view as they ascend non stop all the way to the conference centre at the top. These are in addition to a 8 elevator central shaft at the core. Fire escapes are located within the stainless steel clad ends of the sail structures.
Other activities on the island will include exploration by hiking, mountain bike or quad bike, playing basket or volley ball in the sun on its full sized basket or volley ball courts or simply just relaxing and taking in the sun on the beach or next at the main swimming pool or in the piazza next to the scuba aquarium or on one of the two artificial islands.
